If you wanna know more about me...Look no further! At least for a while.
12 or 20 questions
conducted by rob mclennan
I saw this on his blog. I wanted to contact him and see if we could conduct an interview but I couldn't find a way to reach him. Therefore, I am just going to answer this questions post my answers and acknowledge that these are his original questions. If he wishes for me to take them down he can contact me and I will.
1 - How did your first book change your life? How does your most recent work compare to your previous? How does it feel different?
For many years, i had always said that i wanted to be a writer, but i never really finished anything outside of school. I would always brag about my ideas to my friends and family, but eventually I would lose interest that really bothered me that I would say so much but not do anything. After talking to my uncle Steven Pressfield (author of the War of Art) and reading his book he helped conquer my resistance to actually writing. One day after buying my iPad 1 I just sat down and started writing. So how it changed my life was like helping to prove to myself that I can actually take myself seriously as a writer. My most recent is the fourth volume in the series. It compares in the fact that i have recently hired an editor so i don't have to worry about taking a shot in the dark with my work. I will actually be getting some quality help. Tales of Aradia The Last Witch I think is different because I have actually finished it and I take it seriously. Most of all, I own up to it's flaws. I am a newbie writer so saying I am an amateur is a bit of an understatement. But because it means so much I care about improving it!
2 - How did you come to fiction first, as opposed to, say, poetry or non-fiction?
I have always loved fantasy. Ever since i was little and make up games with my little sister. She said the best part about playing with me was the fact that I was so creative. In high school, I wrote poetry but it had too many rules and i like doing my own thing. I like non-fiction so I think I will start writing that later on in life. Such as biographies about my father and one of my friends and her family.
3 - How long does it take to start any particular writing project? Does your writing initially come quickly, or is it a slow process? Do first drafts appear looking close to their final shape, or does your work come out of copious notes?
I always do research first. This takes a while especially the Internet and separating all the info. Once I get going, I am virtually unstoppable in my writing. However, it's hard to motivate myself. I am huge procrastinator. The first drafts always look shoddy, but that's what a first draft is. I write without holding back and then I go over things. But only after I send it to my friends and family to look over. I do take notes, and bookmark my info. Always.
4 - Where does a piece of fiction usually begin for you? Are you an author of short pieces that end up combining into a larger project, or are you working on a "book" from the very beginning?
It always starts with an idea. Since I have become a TV addict I get my ideas from movies and tv shows and think that I can improve them. I know that sounds like copying, but everyone needs inspiration right? I always make sure in the end my idea is essentially different from the original. I never really much cared for short stories because they end up becoming more complicated than necessary. Either way I like novel so I write those.
5 - Are public readings part of or counter to your creative process? Are you the sort of writer who enjoys doing readings?
I like giving support to fellow writers and people who have Aspergers Syndrome like me. But I have never really liked public speaking so my editor does it for me. I hate being in the spotlight because there are a million things that can go wrong. So no I don't enjoy readings.
6 - Do you have any theoretical concerns behind your writing? What kinds of questions are you trying to answer with your work? What do you even think the current questions are?
I like writing about real-life concepts, but if I base it on fiction no one can take offense by it.
The questions I am trying to answer or more like trying to prove is that teenagers and younger kids care a lot more about the world than people wish to acknowledge. They care about politics, violence, people, and other things too. With my current work I try to work in angle that if you were the last of your kind what would you do about it? Most of all, if you had the opportunity to change everything for the better would you take it.
7 – What do you see the current role of the writer being in larger culture? Does s/he even have one? What do you think the role of the writer should be?
I think the role a writer has is being a source of inspiration and role model, which is I think how it should be. If I become famous (and it's very likely I will not because there are over a trillion better writers then me) I hope to become an advocate and role model for people with Aspergers Syndrome.
8 - Do you find the process of working with an outside editor difficult or essential (or both)?
I consider it very essential. I maybe a good writer, but I do need an editor. Everyone needs help, and I am no exception.
9 - What is the best piece of advice you've heard (not necessarily given to you directly)?
Never be afraid to ask for help.
10 - What kind of writing routine do you tend to keep, or do you even have one? How does a typical day (for you) begin?
Currently, I am in college and i made a promise to my mother and sister over a year ago not to let my writing ruin my education. I passed my first semester, but i did hit a few rough spots. My father supports my writing, but he thinks my writing was to blame for that. I don't know for sure if that is how he feels, but he is a typical dad who likes to blame other things besides his little girl. Either way, next semester I have made a promise to my father to put off my writing until the end of it. I always keep my promise to my family so I keep my writing routine adjusted to that. In order to pass college I am always taking classes so a typical day is after studying i try to write a little.
11 - When your writing gets stalled, where do you turn or return for (for lack of a better word) inspiration?
Ironically, I watch TV or listen to music.
12 - If there was a fire, what's the first thing you'd grab?
My iPad.
13 - David W. McFadden once said that books come from books, but are there any other forms that influence your work, whether nature, music, science or visual art?
I like to believe that everything from my past, to present, and everything around me influences my work. So all of the above
14 - What other writers or writings are important for your work, or simply your life outside of your work?
My mentor of course who is my uncle Steven Pressfield. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes who published her first book at thirteen. Alexandra ivy who made me realize a book could be serious and make you laugh at the same time.
15 - What would you like to do that you haven't yet done?
Have my books become best sellers.
16 - If you could pick any other occupation to attempt, what would it be? Or, alternately, what do you think you would have ended up doing had you not been a writer?
An actress.
17 - What made you write, as opposed to doing something else?
I have just always had that knack for it. My parents always told me the happiest they ever were was when they say me writing for the first time.
18 - What was the last great book you read? What was the last great film?
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Romeo Must Die.
19 - What are you currently working on?
A ten volume series entitled Tales of Aradia the Last Witch.
20- If your fans wish to contact you what should they do?

Got an editor!
Finally, I can get some help on my manuscripts! He sent me a contract which seems perfectly legit. Very fair terms. It's no secert I need an editor and he seems cool and reasonable. Harrison Bradlow is his name. He writes science fiction I believe. So he is a fellow indie author such as myself. It will be nice to get some back-up and help on my work. Who knows? Maybe if he needs a cover artist, he can hire my best friend too who does mine as well.
Still don't know much about him. Except I think he is married and lives in Vegas. My father is a bit worried. But the fact is i need an editor if I want my series to be a success and the guy seems to be willing to help. Sometimes you just got to trust people. Besides he is a fellow indie author and we have a code of honor right?
"Support each other as much as possible"
So far he is working on my second book

(REAL NAME)

TALES OF ARADIA: THE LAST WITCH by L.A. Jones is an interesting YA fantasy set in Salem,MA in present day. This is the story of Aradia, the last witch. This story is fast paced. It has vampires, werewolves, witchs, and other other world beings, and magic. While the "Master" of the vampires has all the witchs killed for so called treason, one survives,Aradia. Her mother hides her for decades until a couple finds her and adapts her. Aradia, learns as she is growing up that she is "special",but when she enters Salem High School, she will learn how special she really is. She learns her abilities, finds out who she is,what she is and who is trying to eliminate her. It has intrigue, some humor, fantasy, witchs, vampires, werewolves, survivial, and of course some action as Aradia tries to stay alive. This is a great YA book on fantasy written on YA level with high school age characters and of course a few "older" generation. This book was received for the purpose from the author and details can be found at Creatspace and My Book Addiction and More.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tales of Aradia The Last Witch Volume 1 (Kindle Edition)
I initially got this book because it was free, obviously but after starting this book I could NOT put it down. Of course I had to go on to read the other two as well. There are some editing mistakes and it does kind of read like a rough draft but the story is so great you can easily get past that. I know many people who like to read these types of books and have recommended them to all of them, the ones that have read them already feel the same as I do, THEY LOVE THEM! Its a great story about a special teenage girl who is caring, funny, and completely relatable. Aradia is a very humble teenager who loves her family and her friends and makes great friends along the way as well as tries to promote tolerance amongst the hidden people. L.A. Jones will no doubt be a writer that I will keep a look out for having new books and I can not wait until the next Aradia book. I will be buying them the day they come out and reading them immediatly. I have been a Twilight fan since before the huge epidemic and I have to say that I enjoyed these books more than the Twilight books, there is a better balance between love story and action. It still is a teenagers book but it is a book that any age can enjoy! Thank you L.A. Jones for being creative genius. Your stories are great!!!

Is having a disability something I should talk about?
Its funny..,half my life I have lived without knowing what I have but once I do it's not like anything really changes. A part of me wants to declare it proudly so maybe people with it wont be so afraid but then again just because something has good intentions doesn't mean it wont backfire. People might forsake me further, but hey it's not like they won't find out sooner or later. I also worry how big am impact it might have on my family. The fact that my thing is gentic makes things even more complicated. Oh decisions, decisions.
In case u are wondering what I have is Asperger's Syndrome.

Life goes on...
I went to the gym today. Dad has been on my back about it and so has my sister. I have to admit I need to though. Only because I have been craving food too often for comfort. Dad says if I work out than I won't crave food as much. I decided today was as good as any. Problem is I think the painter was supposed to come today and I totally missed him. But since this is a paying job he will be back. The gym was cool, but it's been so long that I couldn't stay long. There was a guy there he sure was cute, but... *sigh* the fact is I go to school in Frostburg which is two hours away. I live here in Bethesda and the odds are I will never be around so to start dating would be stupid. I wish guys were not so weird though. I came on strong to this one guy but he is clearly not interested and now avoids me like the plague like I a going to go all pyscho stalker on him. I maybe passionate but I am not freaking psychotic. If he is not interested than fine! I still think we could be friends, after all El has a serious girlfriend and yet I am friends with both of them. He was way too young anyway. Besides he is a Sarah Palin supporter need I say more?
But the guy at the gym was cool! He had a great tattoo on his arm! I complimented on it and even recognized the birthstone. As well as his cool red NIKE shoes. He helped me with one of the machines. I tried not to distract him after all he was working. But I can't help it. It's ironic how in my books I mention that one of them has a staring problem when I am that way. I cannot stop staring at things. It's just a thing I do. Either way, I dont think I can get involved with anyone at the moment.
There was another guy. An old one who was creepy. Said he had two daughters and stuff. I dont know if I believe him because many weirdos always use lies and all experts say u can never tell who is legit and who is not. Either way, I told him about my book. I didn't tell him my name or address or nothing. If I see him again I will talk but the moment he asks me to hop in a car, or anything I will tell him "I got 911 on speed dial and I am not afraid to use it" but i do hope I get to see the cute guy again. I might go to the gym again tomorrow. I need to get into the habit of it. I may not be ready for a boyfriend but one can never have enough friends am I right?
The irony is if many of those guys get girlfriends well single woman hanging around a guy who has a girlfriend...does the term home-wrecker mean ring a bell? So I can kiss those friendships goodbye. One of the reasons why I don't talk to one of me ex's. He's dating someone and even though we are friends it would make things awkward.
God! I hate romance! It makes things so complicated!

Talia Jager: Character Description
Talia Jager: Character Description: "I recently read a blog about describing your character's appearance. It made me think about how I write. When I introduce a character, I tr..."
Makes me stop to consider how I do my stuff.
Makes me stop to consider how I do my stuff.
Okay so I talk too fast...I know that!
Today I got into another fight with Teddy over God Knows What and God Knows Why. Well, actually I do know why because the dude is a rude insensitive egotistical punk! I mean the way he talks its no wonder he knows judo or else he get a heck of a beat down from every person he meets! How can people can stand him I don't know and the worst part is I have to put up with him because he and I are in the same program but I tell you whenever he's around its all I can do from smacking him upside the head!
Its funny how he critcizes me for not having a BF when he's in love with a lesbian and has probably never had a girlfriend ever since he learned how to talk. God he is such a hypocrite no wonder Ashley doesn't love him because nobody in there right mind, gay or straight, would ever date some snotty little know-it-all like him!
I just wish people would get off my back about dating its not like I don't want to go out with boys its just...most guys I meet are insensitive creeps and I think that I have enough emotional baggage to deal without some pimply snothead ragging on me as well.
But not all guys I know are like that like Billy for example he seems nice but unfortantely he's got a girlfriend and number one rule in my dating book is I don't steal other people's boyfriends besides he's kind of old for me but he's sweet and nice and doesn't seem to be annoyed that I talk too much or too fast.
Thats what Teddy's always on my case about come to think of it thats why I got angry at him I mean I don't go out of my way to point out his defects like tickling people in public, being a smart-alec, a insufferable pretty boy, and a cheap no talent poser of a Sk8er Boi but him however he's always going, "Laura you talk too fast, you talk too fast, slow down, you talk too much blah blah!" Doesn't he realize that I'm aware of that?! But hey I can't help it can I? Its just the way I am besides at least I don't offend people I mean its one thing to talk too much but its another to insult people as well which I of course do no such thing or try not to.
I can't help but who I am you know! Its not like I asked to be such a talker but its not like I'm ashamed of it either sure it irritates when "certain" people mention three days in a damned row non-stop but I'm still proud of it I mean like talking people and making them laugh but most of all I like who I am which is more then I can say for Teddy because for as long as he lives I doubt even the most desperate of hookers will want to sleep with him!

Heat wave
Well, the heat has yet to die down here in D.C. but luckily everybody's being cautious about it showing commericals of how to beat the heat, free bus rides, and drinking centers all over the city in plain view with fresh cold water for those out on the street biggest setback to living in the Nation's capitol you can get lost very easily I've lived here for more than three years and yet I still get lost. Luckily, the construction on the house is drawing to a close, Dad's coming home in two weeks, and Mom & Heather should be back home tommorow. I can't wait to see 'em! I hope they had a good time in Europe with Lynn (Mom's best friend since childhood), Norman (Lynn's husband), and Caitlin (Lynn's youngest daughter that's about Heather's age)
It may been boring seating around all week but hey I got through it besides it wasn't that bad I got to order and watch tons of cool dvd's like the complete first season of Lois & Clark. I love that show so much in fact I used to watch when I was a kid overseas it was romantic and yet cool! Seeing Lois fall for Superman, Clark hiding both his identity and feelings from her, Lex Luthor hitting on Lois and even asking her to marrry him, and Clark than asking her to marry him but only after quite some time.
When Lex asked Lois to marry him I was shocked to say the least but even though she clearly loved Superman and not Lex she had to make a choice whether or not to live with a real man or to forever spend her days with her head in the clouds (literally), but it was sad when she said to Lex's proposal because the only reason she did it was because Superman said he couldn't marry her for she only love him as Superman no one else and upon realizing his mistake he flies over to see her and sees the whole proposal and acceptance go down through the window unbeknownst to Lois and Lex than zips all the way to the North or South pole (how can you tell the difference anyway save for the animals? and for the record people penguins live in the South pole not North!) thinks about what just happened, realizes that he has finally lost Lois and to his worst enemy, and screams bloody murder!
Ah well you know as Shakespeare once said, "the course of true love never didth runneth smooth," too right coming from a guy whom only married his wife because she was carrying his child. Its sad how love can never be as beautiful and as easy as the comic books make it seem I mean main character falls for someone, battles wihtin him or herself what to do about it, and ending up with person. I only fell in love once it did NOT turn out like that.
Matt from Egypt *sigh* my first true love oh how I admired, respected, and idolized him true he may have been alot older than me but... Sometimes I wonder where he is to this day but wherever he is I hope he's happy. The sad part about him being my first love was it was at a time where I was all immature, obnxious, rude, and spoiled which I am not anymore (or at least I hope not) so even if the age did make a big difference it wouldn't have mattered in the end if I was just as mature or well-mannered as he was but in the long run he was a good friend and I'm glad I met him.
I wonder if they'll be working on the porch today if they are I better put some water bottles in the fridge because its supposed to be hotter than hell today not to mention humid. Honestly! How does the swamp thing put up with this crud? But good news is the porch is looking great so far and Mom's gonna be thrilled when she sees it only bad part about the construction ending is I'll never see that cute guy that helps out the carpenter again and I don't even know his name. I mean I know should talk to him but...I just don't know how to approach him because I don't want to want to seem like a character from "Desperate Housewives" that seduces her teenage gardnerer! Sick if you ask me just plain sick and the fact that he treats her like trash...serves her right! OOOhhh how I despise that show and those damned characters and actors like that Jesse Metcalfe fellow or whatever the hell his name is one sharp slap to the face and a swift kick to where it would really hurt him would make me happier than I have been in years! God I hate the media! Just when white women are this close to getting respect for who we are and not what we look like pop culture does something to set us back a hundred years! I mean the way men oogle at me in the street, people speak slowly or describe things like crime scenes gently to me like I'm some stupid four year school girl, and the clothes I'm forced to buy whenever I go shopping to be considered remotely attractive just burns me up!
*Sigh* but oh well if white women in general are expected to act like submissive sheep that should increase the buyer's price on me by a factor of a thousand. Girls that are beautiful and willing to do what one ask them are dime a dozen but girls whom are both beautiful and intelligent they are a dying breed and therefore are as expensive as blue diamonds! Its actually kind of funny when you think about it I mean in high school and in my current college I am nothing like the other popular, pretty girls that hang on every available male they can get but...well lets just say that after four years of graduating from our high school and meeting up with me later in college Patt, one of the cutest and hunkiest guy I know, still remembered me and thought I was cute while when I asked about his many girlfriends he had had in high school and even now only to get this predictable response, "who?"

What is life's greatest gift?
Now that's a very hard question to answer seeing as its so general and it depends on so many different factors. For some people it depends on finding love, for others its about achieving their lifelong dream, and with other people its about living your life the way you want and dying happy that you lived it.
However, with some people like those of the younger generation life's greatest gift is that life is unconditional and powerful meaning that it can never change from what its supposed to be or make you invincible from all the outside pain. Ex. gangbangers whom think that is the only life they'll get and therefore have no choice in what kind of cards they can be dealt with. As for the second reason, kids in high school often don't go to class or do their work because they think that no matter how old they get or whatever they do they'll alweays be taken care of.
Sometimes when I look at people whom pass me by on the street I often wonder what it is about life that they find so apppealing. Is it attention, symphathy, and underestanding for that drunk guy hanging around at the bus stop dressed in a purple sunday gown or is it frustration, dreams, and secret longing for that teenage boy in PG (Prince George) county that shot two officers for the sake of his gang buddies? Maybe its the ten seconds of fame and adoration that makes the popular girl in high school think life is worth living; having things be said for you, dress for the sake of others, have no morales let alone a mind of your own, and all this just for the sake of being treated like a celebrity.
Although, life may have many different expectations when it comes to certain people mostly the media, our peers, government, and culture speak for us when one asks what is life's greatest gift: love, children, succesful career, limitless beauty, power with no restrictions, money, and being worshipped as a god among man in platform shoes. Leading many people that I see every day to follow down these paths women wrapping their arms around their beloved, parents holding and grasping at kids swarming around them like wasps, business men and women that accomplish technology, development, and consumer interests way beyomd that of the future or even the devil, beauty belonging to creatures that can be cut, peeled and disected like a biology frog expriment just for the sake of maintaining their youth, power belonging to politicans that will kill anyone just to keep the sensation of playing God in their hands, money to buy objects that will only interetst you for five minutes until you can buy something else, and last but not least (quite literally) being all of these things at the same time and being complimented, idolized, patronized, increasing value of merchandise, and having the right to treat others as if they are nothing but slaves to your bidding this is what's known as being a Hollywood star thank you so very much Paris Hilton (the bimbo!)
Me, on the other hand, while I'll admit my life has certainly been no picnic and I've got the emotional and physical scars to prove I think I've got a pretty good idea of what life's greatest gift is. When I was born I lived overseas seeing pain, suffering, killing of innocents happening right outside my bedroom window, was judged by my behavior instead of my personality and being labeled as a theraptic emotional punching bag for the terminally shallow and insecure for the rest of my life, driving wedges between myself and my family and not knowing how to stop it, plunging myself into that of a depressive tar pit and trying to commit suicide three times, being hooked up on so many different kinds of drugs you'd find being criminally insane as a better alternative, being tempted to drink or do illegal activites just for the sake of acceptance, and having very little faith in your future let alone yourself.
Nonetheless, as the time went by things changed dramatically. I overcame many difficulties such as emotional instability, wanting to die just for attention, bridging the gaps between my family both imediate and extended, completing my required education despite all the setbacks, and finally being able to depend upon myself and whom I am but most importantly becoming a good person that is loyal, loving, and true that believes everyone has a right to live their life by their own choosing whether it be for good or bad and cares for everyone and everything that is willing to let me help them so that is what I think life's greatest gift is: life itself.

Okay so here's the deal...
On GoodReads I contacted someone who liked my story and because the ranking on my book on amazon.com had nose dived I figured maybe she could write a review for my book. Guess what she did! I thank her for everything! Sarah Morgan! She has truly saved the day! But I have asked others to write more reviews for my book. You just wait! My book will be on the best sellers list! I don't know how and how long it will take! But it will happen.
Shall I compare my week to a migraine! Hell yeah!
Why is my life a migraine? I'll tell you why its because I've got so much stress my damned college classes, my fear of failing them, being able to balance all my bills, my transportation problems, the staff, my schedule, my upcoming trip home, and the next summer session I'm supposed to take in the middle of freaking July until August! Dear God! I'll be melting like a vanilla sundae by the end of the summer. The staff at CLE is also a very important factor in my stress level because D.J. and Kelly have both announced that they are quitting and by next week will probably gone forever. I still can't believe it I mean theses were two of the first people I met when I came to CLE but hey they've both said that they are leaving not because of us (the rest of the kids at CLE and me) but for other reasons which they declined to mention but hey all the kids agreed as long as both D.J. and Kelly are happy then we're happy too. We'll miss 'em though.
Fortunately, I've managed to sort a few things out that have been stressing me such as my money issues meaning I'm doing a better job of balancing my checkbook, bills, buying things I want but not using too much money, and finally getting my Blue Shield health insurance up and running. In addition I've finally booked my free round-trip flight back home to D.C. for the summer just in time to make to my sister's high school graduation. I can't wait to see her and everybody!
Not really much to write about except I've hit a few stumbling blocks in my love life I've tried to get Rusty's* (the boy from history class) number but I have just discovered he has a girkfriend. My cute friend Doug* from CompUSA has recently married his girlfriend. Hal* my childhood friend is driving me nuts with damned constant calls. Will* isn't returning my calls or emails! Andrew* the guy I met in Target doesn't want to get involved with anyone after all some stupid fight he got into with his ex. Hmmph if you ask me finding a man shouldn't have to be so damned hard but then again no does ask me anything at all. These days however with extra martial affairs in everything from films to A&E documentaries I supposed I'd better off just being a mistress to some dude who'd shower me with gifts and money until he got tried of me and force me to move onto the next one.
