Free contest!

Nowadays it is not uncommon to see many products with book covers or phrases from book series being featured. Many indie authors such as Lizzy Ford has developed this in products such as bookmarks.
I figured that this would be a great thing to try but rather than design everything myself I will give my fellow Aradians a chance to submit designs and things. You can also submit an idea for what kind of product you want your design to appear on. Anything from a t-shirt to a tote bag to even a bumper sticker.

There is only one catch: you must submit your design to my email address at
If they meet with both my and my editor Harrison R. Bradlow's approval then we will use them.

Keep in mind you can suggest what type of product you want it to be used on.

Don't worry if we approve you will get a percentage of the products sales and we will acknowledge your name with design. You can even give it your own personal signature.

The contest will last until next year the sixth book comes out. So either way, everybody wins.

Good luck my fellow Aradians.
The designs are things you can come up with on your own. The same with the products but here are some examples of the products you can choose:

Hollywood Gets Hot for Fanfic: Who Will Write the Next 'Fifty Shades'? - The Hollywood Reporter: Call it the Fifty Shades effect. The hottest genre in the book world is self-published fan fiction -- original stories based on existing characters, typically traded online for free. Thanks to the steamy E.L. James trilogy, which began as Twilight fanfic before becoming a successful e-book and now a 20 million-selling worldwide sensation, publishers are racing to secure the next hot titles.

An Agent for a Changing Book Business

An Agent for a Changing Book Business: "Much like the book industry itself, the role and expectations for literary agents are changing dramatically, and Regina Brooks, founder and president of Serendipity Literary Agency, offers an up-to-the-minute example. Besides managing the careers—conventional and self-published—of more than 100 authors, launching a gourmet tea line, and cofounding a book imprint at Akashic Books, she’s an author as well. This month, St. Martin’s Press is publishing her second nonfiction book, You Should Really Write a Book: How to Write, Sell, and Market Your Memoir."

Smashwords Adds Price Manager & Library Direct - GalleyCat

Smashwords Adds Price Manager & Library Direct - GalleyCat: "Self-publishing site Smashwords has updated its platform adding a new pricing tool and a new library feature.

AppNewser has more: “The “Pricing Manager” feature lets authors and publishers set the retail price of their books within the dashboard of Smashwords. The second new feature is called Library Direct, which enables libraries and consortiums to place large orders with Smashwords and license eBooks in bulk. Smashwords expects these orders to amount to about $30,000 for the set. Authors and publishers will earn 70 percent of the library price, which is higher than the 45 percent earned aggregator partners.”"

'On the Island' author Tracey Garvis Graves' path to romance - USATODAY.com: Tracey Garvis Graves has one of those dream-come-true stories that make other authors simultaneously delirious with joy on her behalf and jealous as all-get-out. See, Tracey self-published a book that had been soundly rejected by the traditional publishing world.

Urban Fiction Authors Could Be Big Winners In New Publishing Era

Urban Fiction Authors Could Be Big Winners In New Publishing Era: Urban novels aren't often reviewed in major publications like the New York Times, and writers who work in the genre can have trouble interesting big publishing houses in their work. But many authors are gaining exposure by self-publishing instead, with some selling millions of copies and hitting bestseller lists. And as e-books take off, they may be poised to take full advantage — perhaps more so than authors who have relied on more traditional publishing models.

More Money-Wasting "Opportunities" For Writers: Following on my last post about how authors can waste money on promotional strategies, here are some more cash-sucking "opportunities."

one day 'Tales of Aradia' will make it to Hollywood but my editor and I are determined to make it there on our terms. We will make it! How do I know you ask? the key to success is two things a little bit of luck and a lot of determination. Its determination that got women the vote. To Land a Publisher, an Author Prints Sample Copies for Stores - WSJ.com: Sometimes an independent bookseller's word can help push an author's manuscript toward publication.

Author Michael Ennis submitted a draft of his novel, "The Malice of Fortune," to New York publishing houses but was rejected. He revised, edited and submitted once more but was rejected again.

Ridley Scott optioning an indie novel - Lexington Literature | Examiner.com

Ridley Scott optioning an indie novel - Lexington Literature | Examiner.com: Who says indie authors can't be taken seriously? Who says their books don't make the grade? Certainly not Ridley Scott, director of such films as Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and Thelma and Louise.

Deadline.com posted this weekend that 20th Century Fox and Scott were in negotiations with author Hugh Howey for the film rights to Howey's novel, Wool -- the omnibus version, which includes the first five of a projected series of six separately published novellas. Howey confirmed the deal as having been signed, sealed, and delivered this weekend on one of the Kindle forums. Howey also confirmed script writer Steve Zaillian is also attached to the project.

Metro - The promise of self-publishing: Kiana Davenport signs Amazon

Metro - The promise of self-publishing: Kiana Davenport signs Amazon

"Kiana Davenport faced a problem that many writers are familiar with. Despite being an award winning and bestselling author, her collection of short stories entitled “Cannibal Nights,” which she considered to be her best work, had been rejected for publication. “I had submitted them as a collection to all of the Big Six publishers in New York,” she told me, “but their response was uniform.  ‘Story collections don't sell.’  So these prize-winning stories sat in my files for a couple of years. It was utterly depressing. And I know many writers share this experience.”
