EL James to Publish Journal for Aspiring Writers By Mercy Pilkington

Every little bit helps I suppose...

"While critics may rightfully scoff at the writing quality of the 50 Shades of Grey series and jokes have flooded the internet about James’ audacity at helping aspiring writers, no one can argue with the financial and popular success of her three one-time self-published books. Growing out of what she saw as a very real need based on face-to-face interaction with her readers, James’ and her publisher are now releasing a writing journal for would-be authors..." Quoted from article.

Amazon deleting reviews!

Quote from the article:

"As part of its sweeping deletion of thousands of indie book reviews, Amazon has censored several reviews written by me and reviews posted on my independently published books. As an author, of course, I’m dismayed by the disappearance of positive reviews and consequent degradation of ratings on my own books."

Tales of Aradia: The Last Witch Volume 1 was fantastic. I have always loved the Salam witch trials and this books give a whole new perspective on it. I love how it brings all the different races together instead of only one or two. If you love Twilight or any vampire/werewolf story with some romance, this is the book for you. As of right now, it seems like a love triangle, but then I think *wonder if Tristan likes her too?* I guess I will find out in the next books.

I read all volume's of this book and can't wait till the last one is downloaded. The story itself kept me intrigued and wanting to read more and more. I would recommend this book to anyone who of course like's reading these kind of books, I read books about Witches, Vampire's and other's like these, I read them for the romance, the thrill, the antisapaction and most of all these books do have plots to them.

Aradia, a teenager, finds herself the new kid on the block at school when she and her parents relocate to Salem, a town and its school full of an eclectic mix of vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings, that makes for an enjoyable, fast-paced read. Tales of Aradia the Last Witch Volume One, is wonderful and intense. I like that. Here we have an eclectic mix of Vampires, Werewolves and good old fashioned human beings, that serve up an enjoyable, fast-paced read. Aradia knows that she's different and has supernatural power to heal. After all, there were plenty of incidents to convince of such during her earlier school years to attest to that fact. Soon, students and townspeople realize she's not like them, even though she desperately wants to fit in and be liked. The other students avoided her because they thought she was creepy and weird. However, they weren't all that normal either. Aradia does make a couple of friends, but then discovers the lies and secrets of her new town that would rock her world. I especially enjoyed the friendships that she nurtured, and the suspense surrounding the killer who stalks her. I found the characters to be well developed, allowing the reader to see things from a seemingly first hand experience. Lastly, I enjoyed the humor of Aradia, as I found myself chuckling from time to time. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in the series from the very talented L.A. Jones

National Child Illness Awareness day!

So it was like this, I was talking to one of my fans who asked for some book suggestions for her son. She thanked me for the suggestions. She then explained why he wanted the books. He needed something to read while he was in the hospital. Her som was originally diagnosed with Pre-Cursor B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in November of 2005 and underwent chemotherapy for 3.5 years. He is only 8 years old.
Sadly, he is not the first kid to ever have this nor will he be the last.

If any of you have read Anne Rice' Interview with a vampire you should be aware that her daughter died too of leukemia. Many children over the years have been diagnosed with rare cancer, tumors, diseases, and so much more. Yet somehow these brave troopers carry on. They go through all kinds of medical treatments that cannot be described as anything less than necessary torture. They endure these horrible conditions because they all want to live. Sadly, not all children win this battle. I know that there are foundations and everything out there to raise money to find a cure. However, what of the children who have already died? No cure will help them.

What will help them though and their families is the fact that no one forgets how brave they are. Therefore on April 7th I would like you all to wear at least one green thing to symbolize the hope that those children gave. They inspired us all with their courage . Although they maybe gone from this world their memories and their bravery are not.

Here is a facebook event where you can share all kinds of stories. Survivors can describe their struggles. You can post photos of yourself wearing green in their memory. You can also prove that you care which means more than anything else in the world

Two reviews in one night! I feel good.

  Thanks! You rock!

4.0 out of 5 stars
 IABookReviews.com gave this a 9.0/10.0!, March 14, 2013
This review is from: Tales of Aradia The Last
Witch Volume 1 (Kindle Edition)
L.A. Jones quickly establishes the conflict in this supernatural adventure in the prologue, and keeps the pages turning through the epilogue. Aradia, a descendent of a magical race known as witches that were believed to have been completely annihilated in the days of the Salem Witch Trials, becomes aware of her true ancestry in this first volume. Her and her adopted parents move to Salem looking for a fresh start following a series of unfortunate circumstances. Aradia begins to attend high school, only to discover that she is not the only supernatural character in her new community.

While building relationships with local werewolves, vampires, fairies and other mystical species, Aradia finds herself pulled into the center of a serial murder investigation that has the local community bound in fear and uncertainty.

L.A. Jones describes and establishes her characters from the perspective of her hormonal female lead. The adults are described in terms of how their actions are interpreted to reflect their true character, and the students are all described initially in terms of how physically attractive they are, only to later develop into strong, well-defined and diverse people. These prejudices successfully exemplify the limitations the teenage perspective adds to the main character's conflict, and helps establish her as a coming-of-age heroine.

This first volume has a fully contained plot, and can be enjoyed in its entirety without being dependent on any sequels. However, the author does such a great job at establishing her primary characters that this book leaves the reader begging for more.

My Rating: 9.0/10.0

Review Notes:

This book can feel like a hybrid of Smallville and Twilight at times, with some scenes and actions throughout the story feeling like they are direct copies of these highly successful teen dramas. Apart from those similarities to previous works, however, this story stands on its own merits as a creative and well-written adventure. The characters and plot are believable and engrossing, delivered to the reader with consistent modern prose. References to pop culture throughout the story are tactful and tie the world we know outside this story with the world to which we are introduced through this story.

I would like to congratulate both L.A. Jones and Harrison Bradlow in their editing of this work of fiction. Errors, whether in plot or language, were so rare that I cannot recall a single example. With nothing out of place to detract the reader, the reader is free to be fully engulfed in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful diversion from the ordinaryDecember 17, 2012
This review is from: Tales of Aradia the Last Witch (Volume 1) (Paperback)
I got his book from the author to read and review. I very much enjoyed it as did my wife, who will leave her own review. A young adult story that Twilight types as well as more mature readers will enjoy. Strong, likable characters with good depth inhabit the story. Several tightly written plot twists will keep the pages turning for a week if read in small doses or a weekend if you get hooked as I did. I have spoken with L.A Jones on Facebook several times and find her delightful as I did her first offering in this series. I am looking forward to book two.

Isn't this cool?

 In regards to

Book One in the Tales of Aradia The Last Witch Series

The status of Book One's reviews

As many of you know (from my unending prattle and marketing attempts) my book series is available on many different sites.

The entire book series is available on Barnes and Nobles, Amazon, Smashwords, iBookstore and much more. However, books two through five are unedited hence why I price them so low (99 cents to be exact) I wish I could give them away for free but I like every adult in America I must earn some money. However, unlike some authors I am more than willing to change my books. More like improve them so to speak. Hence why I am so grateful for my editor Harrison R. Bradlow.

However, whether it be bragging or no, I would like to update everyone on Book one's progress. Ever since Harrison worked his magic on it my sales have risen more than I could have ever dreamed of.

Before his influence my reviews floundered but now thanks to his influence and help my book has changed from a sapling to a tree

Harrison R. Bradlow helped polish my diamond in the rough novel to something even my father enjoyed. This in itself says to me that his help was a godsend. His involvement in the first book was the beginning of a wonderful and productive partnership that has benefited me enormously. Right now, he is working on editing my second book. His influence and insight will help polish my series into some of the rarest gems in the book world.

So without further ado here are how many reviews book one has accumulated since Harrison used his Midas touch

Amazon: 57 reviews
Barnes and Nobles:  222 reviews
Smashwords: 14 reviews
Kobo: 177 reviews
Goodreads: 176 reviews
iBooks: 171 reviews

***ARC provided by author for honest review***
Although this is not the genre I usually read the cover and the author's query letter intrigued me so I agreed. I was pleasantly surprised. It makes me happy to know there are aspiring young authors who know how to craft a story.

Ms. Jones has written a plot that is both interesting and intriguing. Yes, she needs to learn how to pad her characters and use better dialogue and description, but she has the main ingredient - she knows how to tell a good tale. It was that reason and that alone that kept me reading. I found the setting and the idea for the book an imaginative modern-day twist on an old story.

We are introduced to a young girl named Aradia who is found in the woods and adopted by a couple named Ross and Liza. Although they've always realized their child is special, Ross and Liza don't realize just how special she is until a job transfer causes the family to move to Salem. It is there the story really begins.

Vampires and werewolves are commonplace schoolmates for the girl but it isn't until she tries to help her father solve a murder that a whole new world is opened to her and she finds out she is a witch - the last witch. Thrown into the mix are her boyfriend Dax and friend Roy, who, along with Aradia are searching for the murderer.

The end has a good cliffhanger and causes the reader to want more. While the author can use some maturation (and will as she continues writing) I found enough to keep me reading and wanting to find out what happens next.

As a child I couldn't get my hands on enough books. This author's creativity and ideas could send her to the top of the bestseller list with a good editing and marketing. I can only say good luck!

Book 6 release date has been delayed

My father once promised that he would support my writing career and in fact after looking over my tax information and adding up how much money I have made this past year even he admitted that he was glad he made that promise. However, like many deals in this world there are always conditions that must be meet. It's no seceret that I am very poor student so to speak. In other words, the odds of me getting a scholarship are like the odds of discovering a cure for P.M.S. it is not bloody likely. That being said my father and my family has made me promise that my writing will not intefer with my schooling. It hasn't. However, due to unfortante circumstances I will be forced to drop a class this semester. In the eyes of my family it is the same as failing and because nothing matters more than schooling I must make up this mistake.
Bottom line: I have promised my fans every summer to release a new book in my series but because I have failed my class then this cannot be done. I will have to delay releasing book 6 until next year. I am sorry everyone but it can't be helped.

To self publish or not to self publish?

In the old days, there were two ways to publish: with traditional houses, the optimal choice, or their ugly step-sister, vanity presses. Today, in addition to large and small traditional houses, there are various self-publishing options, including DIY platforms, self-publishing partnerships, also called assisted self-publishing, and, for self-publishers who want the publishing house experience, hybrid subsidy presses.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/terri-giuliano-long/which-publishing-option-i_b_2695579.html

I personally chose self-publishing after research but I knew it would be hard. All the marketing and the effort is something I do. My editor helps me but being the author I call the shots. It's hard I will admit and I do not advise self publishing on people who have full time jobs, marriages or children. This is not a hobby. It's a full time gig. I choose this because really I have no other obligations beside school. I have no regrets but I do advise other writers to weigh all their options before they choose this path.
